Die Neue was a left-wing socialist , union- oriented daily newspaper that appeared in West Berlin from 1978 to 1982. It was founded by Carl Guggomos and Walter Barthel as the successor to the Berliner Extra-Dienst and competed with the left-alternative daily newspaper (taz) founded in 1979 . The authors included Martin Buchholz , Michael Charlier and Horst Tomayer .

From the beginning of 1982 Die Neue appeared only as a weekly newspaper for financial reasons. It was discontinued with issue 43 of October 29, 1982.
