Berlin extra service

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berliner Extra-Dienst was a left-wing socialist publication that appeared from 1967 to 1979. The Extra-Dienst emerged from the Berliner Extra-Blatt , a weekly newspaper that appeared in 14 issues in 1967, and went into the newspaper Die Neue in 1979 . The Berliner Extra-Dienst appeared twice a week.

History and people

The first edition of the Berliner Extra-Blatt appeared on February 11, 1967 . This was intended to create a journalistic counterbalance to the dominant Springer press in Berlin. The project was financially supported by Rudolf Augstein , but failed after a good three months because the newspaper was boycotted at Berlin kiosks. Thereupon the editors around Walter Barthel , Martin Buchholz , Carl L. Guggomos and Hannes Schwenger decided to break away from the concept of a tabloid and in future to publish an information service : The Berliner Extra-Dienst , which appeared for the first time on May 20, 1967. In 1969, according to Spiegel, he had around 4,000 subscribers.

The information service was published by EXTRA-Dienst GmbH , whose shareholders, along with Barthel and Guggomos, were Klaus Meschkat , Lothar Pinkall and Horst Mahler . Mahler, although a partner, participated in early 1969 together with Johannes Agnoli , Detlef Michel and others in a campaign against the Extra-Dienst , which seemed too little revolutionary to him, and called for subscription cancellation. Soon afterwards, a further information service was founded in Berlin, which was declared to be different from the extra service , Rote Presse Korrespondenz (RPK).
