Postia pappi Jaakobille ( Finnish for Post for Pastor Jakob ) is a film by the Finnish director Klaus Härö from 2009 .

action

Leila Sten has to serve a life sentence, but is unexpectedly pardoned after twelve years. The condition is, however, that she moves in with the blind pastor Jakob and helps him with the household. In particular, she should read to him letters that he received from people seeking consolation from all over the country and answer them for him. She is not enthusiastic about this task and does it very half-heartedly: She matches the postman and causes him to avoid Jacob's house. In addition, in order to reduce what from her point of view is very monotonous work, she does not forward some letters to the pastor, but throws them into the well. Jakob asks himself why the mail keeps falling away and starts to doubt himself.

One day Jakob instructs Leila to set the table with a Chinese table, as he is expecting guests. He wears the complete priestly robe and runs into the nearby church to hold a supposed wedding there. However, nobody comes and the church remains empty. Leila has followed him and when he asks her to take him home, she says “no”, leaves and leaves Jakob alone. He feels ready to die and lies down on the church floor. Meanwhile, Leila packs her suitcase and calls a taxi. When the driver asks her where she is going, she remains silent and returns to the house. There she makes a suicide attempt , which fails because Jakob returns to his house at that very moment. She now realizes that she has to help the priest and stages letters. She tells Jakob her own life story and her crime, namely that she murdered her sister Liisa's husband because he beat Liisa. Just as Leila's mother beat her herself and Liisa helped her, Leila wanted to help Liisa with this act. Jakob asks whether the letter has a sender. "Yes", says Leila and Jakob adds: "Leila Sten". He hands her a stack of letters in which Liisa asks him to appeal for Leila's pardon. When she begins to read the letters, Jakob wants to make tea and coffee and dies in his house.
