The No. 1 vom Wienerwald (short: No. 1 ) is an Austrian music group that was founded by Wolfgang Ambros .

history

In 1971 Wolfgang Ambros started his career with the song Da Hofa . In 1976, together with Peter Schleicher , Helmut Pichler , Helmut Nowak and Martin Kunz, he founded his backing band Die No. 1 from the Vienna Woods . In 1977 Martin Kunz was replaced by Peter Koller. In 1978 Peter Schleicher left the band for unknown reasons. Günter Dzikowski came as a replacement.

Initially, the band was only active in live performances. Only on the album Never and Nimmer in 1979 appeared for the first time joint recordings. In the 1980s the logo “Wolfgang Ambros and the No. 1 “read.

In 1985 Helmut Nowak had to leave the group due to illness. His successor Hartmut Pfannmüller only appeared on the 1985 album No. 13 , whose name should be a reference to the band, with. In 1986 Harry Stampfer joined the band.

Due to a severe stroke, Helmut Pichler had to leave the group in 2006. Erich Buchebner was hired as the new bass player. On April 6, 2013, the former bassist Helmut Pichler died after a long and serious illness at the age of 65.
