Walter Fritz (politician)

Walter Fritz (born October 8, 1921 in Obernberg am Inn ; † June 6, 1994 in Mittelberg ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and chairman of the Kleinwalsertaler Bergbahn. From 1969 to 1989 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1960 to 1985 mayor of Mittelberg.

education and profession

Fritz attended elementary and secondary school and completed the Bavarian municipal administration and administration school for three years, whereupon he passed the examination for the upscale administration and savings bank service. He worked between 1935 and 1939 as an employee of the Riezlern , Hirschegg and Mittelberg tourist offices and in 1940 joined the community of Mittelberg. He was community secretary from 1945 to 1955, honorary director of the Kleinwalsertal Tourist Office between 1948 and 1970, and in 1954 he became the director of the Kleinwalsertal mountain railway.

Politics and functions

In 1955 Fritz became a party member of the ÖVP, he was also a member of the ÖAAB and the economic association. In 1973 he took over the office of local party chairman of the ÖVP Mittelberg and was a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg from 1969 to 1989. As a member of the Bregenz constituency , Fritz was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from November 5, 1969 to October 23, 1989. There he was a member of the finance committee, member of the legal committee, member of the control committee and member of the culture committee as well as member of the ombudsman committee.

At the local political level, Fritz was a member of the community council of Mittelberg from 1940 to 1945, afterwards he was again a member of the community council from 1955 to 1985 and also mayor of the community from 1960 to 1985, where he was responsible for the departments of presidential and personnel matters, police, tourism, housing as well as cultural and homeland maintenance. He was also a member of the Kleinwalsertal Tourist Board from 1950 to 1955 and from 1970 to 1985.

Fritz was also active as a board member of Bergbahn AG and as chairman of the supervisory board of Bergbahn AG, worked in the tourism association, where he was, among other things, the regional association for tourism and was a member of the transport committee of the Austrian association of municipalities and a member of the supervisory board of Austrian tourism advertising. He was also active in the Schwaben / Allgäu transport association.

Private

Fritz's father, Alois Fritz, came from Mittelberg, while his mother Aloisia Fritz, née Neuder, was born in Obernberg am Inn in Upper Austria. Fritz married Hildegard Ritzler's first marriage, but the marriage ended in divorce. He has been married to Brunhilde Bilgeri from Immenstadt since 1972 . Fritz has two sons from his first marriage, born in 1949 and 1950 respectively.
