Aloe altimatsiatrae is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet altimatsiatrae refers to the occurrence of the species in the Haute Matsiatra region ofMadagascar and is derived from the Latin word altus for 'high'.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe altimatsiatrae grows trunk-forming, branches out and forms small clumps. The prostrate trunk reaches a length of 20 to 50 centimeters. The 15 to 30 linear-lanceolate, spread-out, upright leaves form loose rosettes . The light green leaf blade is 30 to 55 inches long and 4 to 6 inches wide. The deltoid teeth on the leaf margin are 2 millimeters long and 8 to 15 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescence usually consists of two branches and reaches a length of 70 to 110 centimeters. The dense, heady grapes are 10 centimeters long and 4 to 5 centimeters wide. The egg-shaped, reddish bracts have a length of 6 millimeters and are 3 millimeters wide. The cylindrical, yellow flowers are on 33 millimeter long peduncles . The buds are orange in color. The flowers are 30 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers are 5 to 6 millimeters in diameter. Above that, they are slightly widened towards the mouth. Your outer tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe altimatsiatrae is in the Region Haute Matsiatra on Madagascar spread on granite deposits at altitudes of 1200 meters. The species is only known from the locality of the type.

The first description by Jean-Bernard Castillon was published in 2008. A nomenclature synonym is Aloe fievetii var. Altimatsiatrae (J.-B.Castillon) J.-B.Castillon (2009, nom. Inval.).
