The Quiz Show was a quiz show that was broadcast on Sat.1 from 2000 to 2004 .

regulate

The rules of the show differed from those of other quiz shows in several ways.

There were no fixed profit levels like in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? . A portion of the money earned before each question was wagered, and was used for the next question. If this was answered correctly, the amount wagered was added and the candidate was allowed to continue playing. If he answered the question incorrectly, the wagered amount was deducted and the candidate was eliminated with the remaining money. Ideally, you could win € 256,000 (at the beginning DM 512,000) after answering ten questions correctly.

The candidate had to decide before each question whether he wanted to continue playing or not. To make the decision easier for him, the moderator announced the category before placing it. It was not possible to get out later. There was no fixed number of possible answers: With each question, the number of given options increased by one further possible answer until the last question had to be chosen between 10 possible answers. As a joker, the candidate could swap a question for one of the category of his choice before asking.

Questions 1, 2 and (temporarily) 5 took a special position.

  • In the case of the first question, the candidate did not receive any money on his account, but by answering the question correctly (in contrast to all later stages without a predefined answer option), he was able to have the sender pay an invoice or similar that he had brought with him. This still applied even if the candidate was later eliminated. The bill was then pushed through a document shredder with strong symbolism.
  • For the second question, the candidate received his starting capital of DM 2,000 (or € 1,000) if he answered it correctly.
  • In the fifth question, someone was also involved by telephone in the question of who could win a sum of money that depended on the commitment of the studio candidate. The candidate was allowed to choose the state of his "partner", the location was determined by a random generator. Both respondents had to give an answer, with the "operator" being the first. The studio candidate was free to agree with his opinion or to choose otherwise. From the sixth question on, he played alone again.

Broadcast dates

The show ran for almost five years on the private broadcaster Sat.1. In 2004, the show was canceled due to low audience ratings. Between March 2005 and December 2007 the quiz channel 9Live showed repetitions of the show at irregular intervals.
