The Saat (Original title: The Strain ) is a novel by Chuck Hogan and the Mexican director and author Guillermo del Toro from 2009 . The novel was first published under the title The Strain in 2009. The novel is the first part of a trilogy that is continued by Das Blut and Die Nacht . The seed is the template for the television series The Strain .

A passenger plane lands at New York's JFK Airport and remains on the tarmac for no apparent reason. All systems are switched off and there is no sign of life from the machine. Ephraim Goodweather, an epidemic expert, enters the plane with his assistant and finds only anemic bodies except for 4 people.
TV series
On September 21, 2012 it was announced that an adaptation of the novel as a television series is planned. The American cable broadcaster FX Network has secured the rights and has already signed Carlton Cuse as a showrunner . A pilot episode has already been ordered, for which Guillermo del Toro will also write the script together with Chuck Hogan . Del Toro will also direct the first episode and serve as executive producer of the series alongside Cuse.
The series began airing in the United States in July 2014. In 2015, FX Network will air season two. In Germany, the first season started broadcasting in July 2015.
