The Smuggler's Bride of Mallorca is a German silent film from 1929 by Hans Behrendt with Jenny Jugo and her future husband Enrico Benfer in the leading roles.

action

The action takes place in a picturesque fishing village on Mallorca . The attractive Rosita is friends with the two fishermen Pedro and Andrea. Many men are enchanted by their beauty, including the wealthy Tolomeo, who is extraordinarily persistent in his wooing. In the two attractive fishermen, however, Rosita has two gallants who know how to protect her from the overly pushy man and his clumsy advances. One day Andrea is persuaded to use Tolomeo's boat to transport smuggled goods to the next big city. In order to be able to help him if necessary, buddy Pedro and Rosita decide to accompany him on the not entirely harmless company.

In fact, this trip turns out to be quite dangerous, as the three boat travelers were almost stopped by a police boat. You make it to the place where the contraband is delivered as agreed in the tavern "To the black scorpion". When a masked ball was held in the “Black Scorpion” that evening, the police suddenly stormed the inn to check everyone and, if necessary, to arrest them. Tolomeo is convicted as the leader of the smugglers, but before he can be taken away, he grabs Rosita and flees with her. Andrea rushes behind and is killed while trying to free the beautiful Mallorcan woman. Only Pedro can steal his prey from the criminal and free Rosita from his hands. Tolomeo is eventually turned over to the police.

criticism

“You film in peace, not confused by the pace of the unfamiliar Mallorca: the beautiful Jugo. This is how a smuggler bride has to be: chaste, brittle and a girl who likes to take gifts, from whom they come. A girl who likes to laugh, delightfully harmlessly judges the value of her admirers based on the value of their gifts. "
