The Snorkels ( French : Les Snorky ) is a Franco-Belgian comic by Nic Broca from 1982. The characters were adapted by the Hanna Barbera Studios for an animated series that was broadcast on NBC from 1984 to 1989 . Most of the episodes consist of two stories. The German first broadcast was on July 9, 1988 on RTLplus .

The snorkels are a fictional underwater species that, like The Smurfs , have adapted human technology to their own world. On their head they have a snorkel that they can use to move through the underwater world.
Some of the main characters:
- Fiffikus , who is more or less the hero of the event, yellow skin.
- Ninifee , Fiffikus' friend, pink skin.
- Junior , an imaginary, spoiled snorkel, orange skin color.
- Chichiboo , female snorkel, purple skin color.
- Tooter , who can only communicate through hooters, green skin.
- Kraki , Fiffikus' purple octopus.
Comic series
Broca designed the characters in 1982 for SEPP, the animation department of Dupuis . Finally, a comic series was published first. These appeared in three albums from 1982. The comics were published by Interpart Verlag in 1989 and 1990 in booklet and pocket book format.
Television series
Based on the comics, Hanna-Barbera-Studios created an animated series for American television. Ray Patterson directed the production and the executive producers were Bernard Wolf and Gerard Baldwin . Gil Iverson was responsible for editing and Bob Singer was the artistic director . The music was composed by Hoyt Curtin .
A total of four seasons were created. The first, with 13 episodes, was shown on NBC from September 15 to December 8, 1984 . This was followed by a further 10 episodes from September 14 to November 16, 1985 and a further 13 episodes from September 12 to December 15, 1987. The last season with 29 episodes was shown from September 10 to December 2, 1988. The German version of the series was broadcast by RTLplus from July 9, 1988 . The series has also been shown in Brazil, Israel, the Soviet Union and many European countries.
From 2012 the original version was released completely on DVD. A German DVD release of the first season followed in 2013.
