The Hermetic Garage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hermetic Garage ( French: Le Garage hermétique) is a satirical science fiction - comic by Moebius . The main characters are Major Grubert and Jerry Cornelius .

action

Major Grubert is believed to be the creator of an asteroid that houses a world that is divided into three levels. Since he suspects that monster-like beings like the Bakalites or his archenemy Jerry Cornelius have invaded that world, he goes inside this strange asteroid.

In the second level capital, Armjourth , he is looking for a certain Graad . The shooter Yetchem , meanwhile, shoots down the aviator of fate . Now enormous cracks appear in the plasma skin of the plain, and tremors and destruction set in. Jerry Cornelius has arrived in the capital while Grubert is ready to move to the first level. Here they meet the master of the upper level who wants to usurp power, but the plan is prevented by the Bakalite.

background

Moebius drew the first two pages as a joke. Editor Jean-Pierre Dionnet found these pages at the draftsman's home and asked for them to be published. After the one in the Métal hurlant magazine , a sequel was to appear. Since Moebius had no copies, he drew the new episode in a new style. As a self-imposed challenge, new storylines, people and events were constantly introduced. The result was a 99-page story.

publication

The series was published in two to four-page episodes in the comic magazine Métal hurlant from 1976 to 1979 and then as an album. It was printed in the same way in Schwermetall 1980–1983 in Germany .
