content

Three poor, abdicated soldiers get lost in a large forest. Every three nights a guard has to stand and is visited by a red man who gives them a dream coat, a little bag that always contains money and a horn, which they are only allowed to show themselves in the morning. The one with the coat wants her to go to an inn, and the one with the bag pays. You want a lock. Then they drive into a strange castle with a daughter. She plays cards with them and realizes that someone has a wish bag, gives him a sleeping drink and swaps the bag. When they notice, the one with the coat wants to come into her room, but she screams so loud that he has to flee and leaves the coat behind. The one with the horn blows soldiers and threatens the king, but the princess goes into her bed and sings beautifully while her maid steals the horn from the tent. One soldier finds apples in the forest, the nose of which becomes miles long, and pears, from which it falls off again. He goes to the castle as a gardener and sells the apples to the princess. Then he comes as a doctor and alternately gives her apple and pear powder until she hands over the miraculous things.

origin

The magic fairy tale comes from Dorothea Viehmann . From the second edition it was replaced by Der Krautesel (KHM 122), where it is still reproduced in the note.
