The four musketeers (booklet series)
The four musketeers (subtitle: novel about monarchs, men and mistresses ) was a historical booklet series published by Erich Pabel Verlag . From 1976 to 1977 it was published initially every two weeks and then a total of 65 issues a week.
The series went back to an initiative by Kurt Bernhardt, at that time editor-in-chief at Pabel, and was intended as a supplement to the sea adventure series Sea Wolves , at the same time a cycle concept was to be implemented similar to Perry Rhodan's , that is, a storyline extends over several issues. The series was obviously inspired by Alexandre Dumas ' coat-and-sword classic The Three Musketeers , the remake of which with Michael York as D'Artagnan was very successful in cinemas from December 1973, and the sequel The Four Musketeers - The Revenge of the Milady from 1974.
The realization was entrusted to Rainer Delfs , who was also the author of some of the novels. Besides him, the following authors were involved:
- Uwe Erichsen
- Claus Fischer
- Ute sweet
- Karl water
- Susanne Wiemer
All titles appeared under the publishing pseudonym Jean Lafitte , echoing the name of the privateer Jean Laffite .
The plot does not correspond to that of the Dumas novel, rather the four musketeers here are the four sons of the murdered Duke of Clermont who, together with their sister Gabrielle, want to uncover the murder of their father. The following cycles took the protagonists on their adventures across Europe.
The format was the usual booklet format (15 × 22.5 cm, 66 pages). The price was DM 1.50.
