Diego Dublé Almeyda (* 1841 in Valparaíso , † May 6, 1922 in Santiago de Chile ) was a Chilean general and politician.

Dublé attended the Colegio Shell y Miller and studied from 1857 at the Escuela Militar . In 1860 he joined the army as an ensign of the artillery and was used in the garrisons of Valparaíso and Caldera during the Spanish-South American War . In 1865 he took part in the Battle of Calderilla and was promoted to lieutenant.

In 1868 he was a member of the committee for the repatriation of the body of the independence fighter Bernardo O'Higgins to Chile. He then became a mathematics professor at the Liceo of Valparaíso. In 1870 he was promoted to Sargento Mayor , and from 1872 he was a professor at the Escuela Militar .

On September 17, 1874, Dublé was appointed governor of Magallanes and commander of the forces of Punta Arenas. In 1875, the German Emperor Wilhelm I awarded him the Officer's Cross of the Royal Order of the Crown for the rescue of the crew of the damaged ship, Doctor Hansen . During his tenure there was a rebellion in Puntas Arenas in which he was seriously injured.

In 1878 Dublé became head of department in the Foreign Ministry. In the same year he was sent to Argentina as a secret agent. There he surrendered to the authorities and was arrested. As a result of the Fierro-Sarratea Pact , he escaped execution and was able to return to Chile. There he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1879 and took part in the saltpeter war. He was initially chief of the army administration in Antofagasta, then became a member of the staff and finally chief of staff of the First Division and took part in the Battle of Dolores in November 1879.

In April 1890, he was captured by Peruvian forces in the village of Locumba. He managed to escape with six of his men, but was tried on a court martial. A good lawyer hired by his brother Baldomero achieved rehabilitation. He was transferred to the General Staff and took part in the Battle of Tacna in May 1880. In the fall of that year he became aide to General Manuel Baquedano González and was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

As commander of the Atacama regiment , he took part in the Lima campaign in 1881 and distinguished himself in the battles of Chorrillos and Miraflores. He rose to colonel and was initially in command of the fortifications of Valparaíso, and in November of the Brigada Cívica de Infantería of Atacama. In the summer of 1882 he was military attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1887 commander of the naval artillery regiment in Valparaíso.

From 1889 he was a military attaché in the Chilean embassies of England and Germany. There he was surprised by the Chilean civil war in which he remained loyal to the government of President José Manuel Balmaceda . After the victory of the revolution, he returned to Chile, where he devoted himself to painting, music and translating English texts. In 1908 the Congress honored him with the promotion to general and the award of the title Benemérito de la Patria .
