from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diego Fernández (born December 26, 1703 in Vera ; † February 15, 1775 ) was an Andalusian harpsichord maker who worked at the Spanish royal court in Madrid .

Life

Fernández was born to Juan Fernández and Maria Caparrós Sala.

From 1722 until his death in 1775 he worked for the Spanish court. This is evident from invoices sent to the court. He repaired harpsichords and also built new instruments. The new harpsichords especially for the Spanish Queen Maria Barbara de Bragança , a great musician and already a student in Portugal of Domenico Scarlatti , who wrote more than 500 pieces for her and followed her to the court in Madrid.

Instruments

Queen Barbara owned twelve harpsichords, at least three of which were made by Fernandéz.

In the archives of the Palacio Real there is an invoice from Fernandéz from 1749 for a harpsichord for Queen Barbara and from 1757 an invoice for two harpsichords with 61 keys each.
