Life

Riaño was recalled from Valladolid to Seville in 1527 and became the most famous representative of the Plateresque style in Andalusia . He initially directed work on Seville Cathedral , where he designed the great sacristy and the chapter hall. His most famous building is the lavishly decorated town hall ( Spanish Casas Capitulares or Casa consistorial de Sevilla ), which was built according to his plans after his death. One of his assistants in building the town hall was the architect Martín I de Gaínza (approx. 1500–1555), who also made the models for the cathedral according to his plans.
