The service award for the Reich Labor Service was a service award for all members of the Reich Labor Service , which was donated by decree on January 30, 1938 by Adolf Hitler . The full wording of the ordinance read: On the occasion of the fifth return on the day of the national survey, I am donating the "Service Award for the Reich Labor Service" as recognition for loyal service in the Reich Labor Service. Articles of Association

The statute of the service award for the Reich Labor Service issued on the same day then determines the further details of this award, which read in its full content: The service award for the Reich Labor Service is a recognition for loyal service in the Reich Labor Service. It was awarded in four stages:

  • 4th level for 4 years of loyal service
  • 3rd level for 12 years of loyal service
  • for 18-year-old loyal services the 2nd level
  • 1st level for 25 years of loyal service.

Form and way of wearing the service award

The service award of the 4th level is an oval, bronze medal with the symbol of the Reich Labor Service in raised embossing on the front and the inscription: For loyal service in the Reich Labor Service on the reverse . The 3rd level service award is the same as the 4th level; however, it is silver. The 2nd level service award is the same as the 3rd level; but the silver emblem is woven into the ribbon. The service award of the 1st level is the same as the 2nd level; However, the medal and emblem are gold. The service award for all four levels is worn on the cornflower blue ribbon on the left side of the chest. The pieces of the service award, which are given to members of the military service for female youth, bear the mark of the labor service for female youth on the front. (Spades and ears of wheat for men, the swastika and ears of corn for women) Article 4 of the statutes then regulated the implementing provision, which was in its full wording:

Implementing regulation

The service award for the Reich Labor Service could only be awarded to members of the Reich Labor Service including the labor service for young women. The following could be counted towards this period of service:

  1. the time of the completion of the military service, insofar as it exceeds the labor service,
  2. the period of service in the National Socialist Labor Service,
  3. the time spent in the full-time service of the NSDAP, its branches and affiliated associations.

The same crediting also applied to periods of service that had been completed full-time in the Reich Labor Service. An official sample form was then to be used for the sample proposal to be filled out.

Service award of the RAD in the 57 version

The legal basis ends with the implementation regulation; no further changes were made until 1945. Exact award numbers cannot be proven, since "millions" of men and women served in the RAD. So far, award certificates of the 4th level have become known. The service award of the Reich Labor Service could be worn equally with a service award of the Wehrmacht. According to the law on titles, medals and decorations of July 26, 1957, wearing the award in the Federal Republic of Germany is only permitted without National Socialist emblems.
