Dieter Christian Döpfner

Dieter C. Döpfner (born January 8, 1928 ; † October 12, 2012 ) was a German architect and director of the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main .

Life

After studying architecture, Dieter Christian Döpfner was assistant to Buckminster Fuller and later to Egon Eiermann . He was the head of the cultural department of the German Craft Institute. As director of the Werkkunstschule Offenbach, he significantly influenced its transformation into a modern university. So in 1968 he abolished the class system and divided the school into the departments of graphics, product design and architecture. At the same time, lecturers from the fields of psychology, marketing, sociology and communication theory were temporarily appointed. The college for design model was later adopted by many design training institutions.

His son Mathias Döpfner is CEO of Axel Springer AG .
