Dieter Fensel

Dieter A. Fensel (born October 10, 1960 in Nuremberg ) is a computer scientist who works in the field of formal languages and the semantic web .

Career

Fensel studied mathematics, social science and computer science in Berlin and obtained a doctorate in economics from the University of Karlsruhe under Rudi Studer in 1993 (subject: The KARL language of knowledge and representation ). In 1998 he received his habilitation and worked there at the Institute for Applied Computer Science and Formal Description Procedures (AIFB), which deals with knowledge management and formal languages , among other things .

Further positions took him as an assistant professor to Amsterdam , and as a professor to Galway ( Ireland ) and Innsbruck , where he co-founded the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), an institute that works on semantic web technologies. Since 2003 he has been the head of DERI Innsbruck. In 2007 he founded Seekda and STI International and at the end of 2007 DERI Innsbruck was renamed STI Innsbruck.

On his way he published numerous articles in specialist journals and at conferences (often co-organized by him). He was and is involved in several national and international research projects.
