Dieter Härthe (born November 29, 1948 in Waldbröl ) is a German association functionary . He is Chairman of the Board of the Senate of Economy in Germany and Austria and Executive Chairman of the Senate of Economy International .

Professional background

Dieter Härthe grew up as the son of a master car upholsterer in Bonn . His professional career began at the age of 14 with an apprenticeship as a car upholsterer . This led him to work as a journeyman in his father's company for a few years. Härthe then completed a commercial apprenticeship. While doing military service , he was involved in the German Armed Forces Association and was elected spokesman for the conscripts. In the early 1970s, Dieter Härthe initially ran a service company in the field of market research and marketing . In 1975 he founded the Association of Self-Employed and Traders (VSG); until 2004 he was its chairman. In 1977 Dieter Härthe also set up the Institute for Business Consulting, Economic Development and Research (IBWF).

In 1981 VSG, IBWF and five other associations merged to form the Federal Association of Medium-Sized Enterprises (BVMW). Härthe was the managing director of the BVMW from 1981 to 2002. In 1996 he initiated the first business senate in Germany, an association of business representatives as dialogue partners for politics. Due to disputes with the President of the BVMW, Mario Ohoven , Härthe was accused of irregularities in 2002, which resulted in his dismissal. The relevant court process ended with a settlement in which the allegations were declared unjustified. The BVMW was also obliged to pay Härthe a monthly fee up to retirement age.

In 2003 Härthe founded the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA) Germany, of which he was Chairman of the Board until 2010. Here, too, he established a Senate as an advisory body for entrepreneurs. From this, the Senate of the Economy was founded in 2009 as an independent organization, which Härthe has headed as CEO since then.
