Dieter Hoff

Dieter Hoff (born August 14, 1939 in Wiesbaden ) is a former German media manager. From 1992 to 2004 he was Technical Director of the WDR .

Life

Hoff studied communications engineering at the Technical University of Munich and worked from 1962 to 1966 on the development of professional transmission and reception systems for industry. After receiving his doctorate in high-frequency technology, he went to WDR in Cologne as a production engineer in 1975 . In 1977 he took over the management of the transmitter operating technology department before Hoff was appointed head of the radio technology department in 1988. In this function he was also chairman of the ARD radio operations managers' conference .

On May 1, 1992, he took up the position of technical director of the WDR. During his term of office, the increasing digitization of broadcasting fell, during which Hoff, according to director Fritz Pleitgen, “always had the advantages for public broadcasting and the public in view”. In March 2000 he became chairman of the DVB-T steering committee of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Towards the end of his tenure, Hoff headed the contract negotiations between ARD and ZDF and the satellite operator ASTRA, which ensured the transition from analog to digital television. Hoff retired on August 31, 2004.
