Dieter Jahn (born April 23, 1951 in Neresheim ) is a German chemist . In 2006 and 2007 he was President of the Society of German Chemists (GDCh).

Life

Dieter Jahn studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart from 1970 . In 1978 he received his doctorate . In 1979 he became laboratory manager in crop protection research at BASF AG . From 1992 to 1996 he was head of biotechnology research at BASF. Since then, Jahn has been a department director responsible for research planning (since 2000 university relations and research planning) of the BASF Group; in 2012 he retired. Today (as of 2016) he is the knowledge transfer ambassador of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for materials research and chairman of the University Council of the University of Konstanz .

In 2016 the GDCh awarded him honorary membership and the University of Konstanz the dignity of honorary senator.
