Dieter L. Kaufmann

Dieter Lorenz Wilhelm Kaufmann (born June 28, 1937 in Grevenbroich ) is a German chef .

Career

Dieter L. Kaufmann completed a pastry chef apprenticeship in Grevenbroich and a cooking apprenticeship in Dusseldorf . In 1958 he worked at the Grand Hotel Eden Montreux in Switzerland and at the same time attended the hotel management school in Heidelberg until 1959 , followed by a position at the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden in Sweden . He gained service experience in 1960 at the Savoy Hotel London and from 1961–62 at the Mayfair Hotel in London.

In March 1962 he bought the Hotel-Restaurant Zur Traube in Grevenbroich. Here he received his first Michelin star in 1973 and the second in 1983. He was able to maintain this high level for 27 years (until 2009).

In March 2014, after 52 years, he closed his restaurant at the age of 77. In 2018 he sold the Wilhelminian style house, which was placed under monument protection in the same year, and held a closing event there.
