Dieter Maass

Dieter Maaß (born March 7, 1939 in Gelsenkirchen ; † February 7, 2018 in Herne ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Bundestag .

Life

After attending primary school, Maaß attended a metal vocational school from 1954 to 1957, where he trained as a locksmith. From 1961 onwards he was on the works council of several companies for many decades. From 1954 he was a member of IG Metall and from 1975 to 1990 a member of IG Metall local administrations in Gelsenkirchen and Herne. In 1957 Maaß joined the SPD, since 1988 he has been a member of the sub-district executive of the SPD Herne and since 1990 chairman of the SPD sub-district Herne. From 1984 to 1990 he was also a member of the city council of Herne. In 1990 Maaß was elected to the German Bundestag in the constituency of Herne , to which he was a member until 2002.
