Dieter Neubauer (born April 28, 1934 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German chemist . He has worked for BASF since 1960 and is known as a non-fiction author.

Life

After graduating from high school in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Neubauer studied chemistry from 1953 to 1959 - including a minor in mineralogy - at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He wrote his doctoral thesis on the structure of metal-sulfur-nitrogen compounds in the working group of Margot Becke-Goehring at the University of Heidelberg. From 1960, Neubauer worked for BASF AG in Ludwigshafen, initially devoting himself to research into high-pressure reactions of carbon monoxide. This was followed by three years of work in the high pressure department with longer work stays in Texas, California and Puerto Rico as well as a staff assignment . At the beginning of 1972 he took over the management of the plant in Tarragona at the Spanish subsidiary of BASF Española as a member of the board of management and technical director .

In 1979 he returned to Germany, but continued to work as technical director and managing director for two of the group's subsidiaries in the Ruhr area and in Wesseling near Cologne. Between these activities, he took over the management of fertilizer production in Ludwigshafen from 1986 to 1988 . In 1995 he retired.

Neubauer gained notoriety as a linguistically powerful non-fiction author who clearly explains complex facts and covers a wide range of topics, mostly inspired by natural sciences. Some of his books have been published in several editions and have been translated into other languages.

Neubauer has been born with Margot since 1960. Helbig is married and has two daughters.

Works

The range of topics in his published work is unusually wide, ranging from travel literature to inspiring and unusual books on inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry to original scientific papers.
