Diether V. von Gemmingen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diether V. von Gemmingen (* around 1374; † before 1428) was an early representative of the barons of Gemmingen . He inherited property in Heimsheim and acquired other properties in Steinegg , Neuhausen , Tiefenbronn , Friolzheim and Mühlhausen , thus establishing the Gemmingen-Steinegg line that still exists today within the family.

Life

He was a son of Dietrich von Gemmingen († 1414) and Els von Sachsenheim († around 1389). His life data can only be estimated. Due to his family circumstances, he was probably born around 1374. In 1403 he was at the tournament in Darmstadt . He received half of Heimsheim from his father's possession , where he is considered the builder of the Schlegler Castle . Via his marriage to Anna von Selbach, Diether also got hold of the free baths in Baden , which Anna's ancestors had as a fief . In 1407 Diether acquired another significant share in Heimsheim, part of Steinegg and property in Neuhausen , Tiefenbronn , Friolzheim and Mühlhausen from Jakob vom Stein and his wife Enni von Rügsingen. In the same year he took the side of the subjects in Neuhausen when they wanted their own pastor. However, the Speyer bishop Raban von Helmstatt decided that Neuhausen was only a branch church of Merklingen and settled the same dispute between the Herrenalb monastery and Diether with his son of the same name.

In his father's inheritance contract of 1414, his children were given a farm in Kirchhausen, the validity of the Rappenmühl and an estate in Meimsheim. Since Diether was no longer favored, it is quite possible that he was also dead in 1414, the year his father died. His latest possible date of death is in the 1420s, when the documents already state him dead. In 1425 his brothers Hans and Konrad sign a division agreement with his son Diether.

family

Diether was married to Anna von Selbach. She survived him and later married Seyfried von Stein. Diether's descendants form the Gemmingen-Steinegg line within the Barons of Gemmingen. The son of the same name, Diether (VI.), Has done a great job rounding off the property. With his grandsons Dietrich VIII († 1542) and Otto (1475–1558), the line has divided into two branches and produced numerous important representatives.

Progeny:

  • Els († 1463) ⚭ Konrad von Helmstatt
  • Margaretha († 1473), nun in the women's monastery in Reute, most recently prioress in the Himmelkron monastery
  • Diether (VI.) (1398–1478) ⚭ Agnes von Sickingen († 1478)
