Dietrich Eckart Prize
The Dietrich-Eckart Prize was a literary prize a , to the city of Hamburg , initially her Senate , awarded from 1933 to 1943. It was originally intended to replace the Lessing Prize . Instead, the endowment of the Lessing Prize was reduced from RM 15,000 to RM 5,000 and the Dietrich Eckart Prize was linked to the same amount, which could also be awarded to two winners in equal parts.
The award was named after the journalist and publisher Dietrich Eckart , who, as an anti-Semitic ideologist and early supporter of National Socialism, was Adolf Hitler's mentor and source of ideas .
Difference to the Lessing price
“The Lessing Prize remains… a prize that can only be assessed from an artistic point of view, while the Dietrich Eckart Prize is primarily intended for literary and propagandistic achievements in line with the idea of National Socialism. Of course, it should only be awarded if there is a really artistic achievement. But this must always be connected with National Socialist sentiments. "
