Friedrich Wilhelm Hymmen

Friedrich Wilhelm Hymmen (born June 8, 1913 in Soest ; † March 25, 1995 in Würzburg ) was a German writer and editor. In 1951 he set up the foundation for the radio play award of the war blind , which later became the most important award for authors of German-language radio plays .

Life

Hymmen was the son of a Protestant theologian and grew up in Münster , where he passed his Abitur in 1932 at the Schiller High School. He studied German and history in Münster and Berlin and also graduated from the Reich Press School in Berlin. The military service, for which he was called up in 1939, he had to break off in 1942 because of an eye injury and then worked as a freelance writer. After 1945 he was also the press officer of the Association of the Blind of War and in 1951 established the foundation of the Radio Play Prize for the Blind of War , which later became the most important award for authors of German-language radio plays . From 1949 he worked as a freelancer for the Church and Radio Information Service at the Evangelical Press Service, from 1958 to 1978 as editor-in-chief, where he worked first in Bielefeld until 1968 and later in Frankfurt am Main.
