Dietrich Berke

Dietrich Berke (born February 26, 1938 in Castrop-Rauxel , † October 16, 2010 in Zierenberg ) was a German musicologist and editor-in-chief at Bärenreiter-Verlag .

Berke studied musicology, German literature and philosophy in Kiel and Würzburg and received his doctorate in musicology in 1967 in Würzburg. He then received a scholarship from the German Research Foundation , from 1969 to 2002 lecturer, later chief editor at Bärenreiter-Verlag in Kassel, and since 1973 member of the editorial team of the New Mozart Edition .

Berke prepared and supervised editions in the New Mozart Edition and the New Schubert Edition . He published yearbooks and festschriften, wrote essays on Mozart and Schubert research as well as on the life and work of Heinrich Schütz , on music philology , publishing and copyright law. He was a member of the boards of sponsoring associations and governing bodies of various musicological monuments and editions.

He was an honorary member of the Georg Friedrich Handel Society in Halle.
