Life

Dietrich was the eldest son from the second marriage of Count Dietrich IV / VI. von Kleve with Hedwig von Meißen and was born around 1226. Originally it was not intended for the count's office; but with the early death of his older half-brother Dietrich primogenitus († 1245) he moved up in the line of succession. Since 1255 he was married to Aleidis, daughter of Heinrich I von Heinsberg , who brought extensive possessions ( Hülchrath and Saffenburg ) into the marriage. From 1255 he ruled Hülchrath and the southern parts of the county of Kleve independently until he became his father's inheritance in 1260. Dietrich V./VII. had to deal with his younger brother Dietrich Luf at times , who could not keep himself from the rights of his wife as Count of Saarbrücken . Under Dietrich V./VII. was Dinslaken , Orsoy , Buederich and perhaps Huissen and Kranenburg its town charter. After his death he was probably buried in the monastery church of Bedburg .
