Digital copy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The digital copy ( English for 'digital copy') is a term from the field of the film industry . The feature meant by this term for DVDs and Blu-ray discs allows a legal copy on a PC and a portable media player .

Similar to a DVD rip , the content is transferred to the player and the medium does not have to be carried along. The difference is that here the file is provided with digital rights management and cannot be passed on at will. In addition, each disc contains a code that is intended to allow a single transfer to the program library of a PC and a media player . The offer was limited to the iTunes software from Apple and the Windows Media Player from Microsoft , until 20th Century Fox introduced support for Google's Android platform for some titles in October 2011 (although the device must not be rooted at the time of playback). In Germany, however, iTunes only supports digital copy for selected media.

In order to be able to use the digital copy, one must first register with a platform and type in the code so that the digital version can be played. Digital copy has improved so much over time that you can usually play the content via Flixster with an Internet connection, regardless of the operating system of the computer. To do this, everything is made available again as a download , but this usually takes up a lot of storage space. In this way, with the appropriate app, you can watch your films on your tablet and smartphone with Android. Over time, the version with UltraViolet was added. Many films that you buy on Blu-ray with digital copy can then also be seen in HD quality on the Internet.

Up to now it was possible to transfer music CDs to end devices with a large number of programs . This is a step towards the user in order to enable him to do this again in the field of films. Here, the user can usually differentiate in the resolution in order to optimize the file size and quality for the end device.
