The digital analog is an audiovisual art and culture festival that has been taking place in Munich since 2002 and has roots in alternative club culture. From 2007 the digital analog will be organized by the Digitalanalog eV association of the same name , which was founded by Claudia and Stefan Holmeier.

history

The first digital analog took place in February 2002 for three days in the former "tube" of the Einstein cultural center. Since then, as the number of visitors increased, the venue has changed and, for example, the Harry Klein or the Haus der Kunst in Munich have been used. The digital analog has found a home in Gasteig since 2007 and has been held there every year since then.

Goal setting

Due to the roots of the digital analogue in the alternative and underground scene in Munich, the aim was to offer a colorful program for a broad target group far from the mainstream suitable for mass media right from the start. The costs of the festival have therefore always been calculated in such a way that entry remains free for visitors in order to enable the broadest possible audience to experience art and culture. This is achieved by many voluntary helpers, but also by artists who feel connected to the alternative scene and for this reason appear cheaply or without a fee. The Gasteig as an event location has been deliberately chosen so that access is also given to people who do not feel at home in the typical club culture. The name of the festival is inspired by the subtitle of the same name of an album by the Austrian artist Curd Duca and stands for the connection between these two poles within the framework of the festival.

layout

As a comprehensive cultural festival, the digital analog tries to combine elements from different arts into a coherent overall experience. Often an artist cannot be assigned to a fixed category, as stylistic elements from different arts are mixed and connected to create the total work of art.

music

Of course, an important basic component of the festival is music. The genre spans all varieties of electronic music, but more and more artists with alternative bands from indie rock to metal appear on the specially set up stage. Musicians with experimental sound generators or conceptual sound compositions are also consciously desired here. That is why you could see performances by artists with extraordinary "instruments" such as synthesizers , Gameboy or the Tenori-on on the digital analog .

Video

Another important part of the festival are various video feeds. A video projection is usually played live by VJs for the musicians' performances , trying to capture the atmosphere of the music and translate it into images. Often they are in direct contact with the musicians in order to enable cooperation. Other visual works of art include video installations about the history of the festival, lighting design of the building, but also performances that edit and change live streams from various cameras in the building in real time.

Readings

Readings have been part of the digital analogue right from the start. Topics from a wide range are presented here, from reciting historical literature to panel discussions and social criticism. The focus here is on a mix of entertainment and education.

Performances

Performances are also an integral part of the inventory. Here you can see conceptual artists, walk-in art installations or work shows by fashion designers.

Workshops

Since 2013, small workshops have been held in which festival visitors can interact with installations themselves. This includes synthesizers, instruments or open art spaces.
