Dimitri Taikon

Johan Dimitri Taikon (* 1879 ; died October 15, 1950 ; also called Milosch ) was a member of the Roma group of the Swedish Kalderash and a well-known fairy tale and storyteller.

Life

Dimitri Taikon was born near Bollnäs in Sweden into a coppersmith dynasty, but spent many years wandering, which took him to various countries, especially Eastern and Southeastern Europe, before returning to his native Sweden in later years. There he became the head of a large family association and a kind of patriarch of all Swedish Roma .

He campaigned massively for the improvement of the living and educational conditions of his people in Sweden.

Dimitri Taikon is best known as a narrator of fairy tales, sagas and similar subjects, of which he had an abundant repertoire available in his memory. Extensive records have been made and published based on his stories.
