Dimitrios Kalapothakis , Greek Δημήτριος Καλαποθάκης (* 1865 in Areopoli ; † May 27, 1921 in Munich ) was a Greek journalist and founder of the newspaper Embros (Εμπρός).

biography

Kalapothakis gave up his studies in Athens when Thessaly came to Greece. He settled in Volos and took over the publication of the magazine Simea . Through his connections to Athens he ensured that the newspaper was widely distributed. Kalapothakis was the political editor for many years. He openly supported Charilaos Trikoupis . After his death he published the newspaper Embros . Kalapothakis was an important figure among the Greek journalists and also an important organizer of the Macedonian County ( Komitaji ). 1904 began the struggle for Macedonia , where Kalapothakis the Greek Makedonomachen with weapons, money and supplies supported. He was the chairman of the county until it was dissolved. Kalapothakis' political journalism is exemplary of its era. His journalistic work was continued by his son Alkibiadis Kalapothakis (Αλκιβιάδης Καλαποθάκης).

In addition to his journalistic work written Kalapothakis also plays , including taking [Constantinople] (Άλωση [της Κωνσταντινούπολης]), Fokas Bulgarians Slayer (Φωκάς ο Βουλγαροκτόνος), Sappho (Σαπφώ, premiered in the National Theater ), The Heiratsschwindler (o Προικοθήρας).

His death during an operation was announced in the June 2, 1921 issue of the Embros with a delay of a few days .
