Dimitris Beis

Dimitris Beis ( Greek Δημήτρης Μπέης , * 1928 in Edessa ; † October 25, 2012 in Athens ) was a Greek politician .

Beis studied law and was in Paris for postgraduate studies . In 1964 he was mayor of the municipality of Zografos in the greater Athens area. Beis was Mayor of Athens for two consecutive terms from 1979 to 1986 . During this time he campaigned for a greening of the city and sport. In addition, the Athens Carnival was brought back to life during his tenure as Mayor.

During his career as a politician, Beis was a member of the Greek parliament for the socialist PASOK from 1989 .
