Dimitris Koutsoumbas ( Greek Δημήτρης Κουτσούμπας , born August 10, 1955 in Lamia ) is a communist Greek politician . He has been General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece KKE since April 2013 .

biography

Koutsoumbas joined the Communist Party's youth organization during the dictatorship while studying at the Law Faculty of Athens University . He became a party member in 1974. In 1987 he was elected to the Central Committee. He had been a member of the Politburo since 1991 and was responsible for the party newspaper Rizospastis for ten years . In 2009 he was elected secretary and in April 2013 as the successor to Aleka Papariga as general secretary of the party. He is married and has a daughter.
