Dimitris Polychroniadis
Dimitrios "Dimitris" Polychroniadis (born April 25, 1969 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek basketball coach .
career
Polychroniadis' father was a footballer, his uncle a basketball player. He himself practiced swimming, soccer, water polo and basketball. In water polo he played for Aris Thessaloniki and made it into the Greek junior national team. He also played basketball at the Anatolia College of Thessaloniki, an English-language school in his hometown. As a student of agricultural science, he came to Germany in 1991 and played there for ASC 1846 Göttingen (1992–94), Hellas Göttingen (1994–97) and the Osnabrücker SC (1997–99). During his playing days, Polychroniadis worked as a trainer and looked after teams at Anatolia College, TV Germania Gieboldehausen, Hellas Göttingen and also in Osnabrück. He was also a basketball referee.
At Osnabrücker SC , he led the men's team in 2008 to win the championship title in the 1st Regionalliga Nord and thus to promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB . After this success it came to the separation and from the season 2008/09 Polychroniadis took over the coaching position at USC Leipzig (later Uni-Giant Leipzig ), which managed under his leadership in 2010 the promotion from the 1st regional league to the ProB. He stayed in Leipzig until the end of the 2011/12 season.
Between 2012 and 2015 he worked as head coach at BBC Magdeburg . In the 2012/13 season he led the Magdeburg team to second place in the final table of the 1st Regionalliga Nord. The team received a starting place in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA for the following season , but was the last to be relegated to the ProB (two points were deducted from the club due to a violation of the license statutes). In the 2014/15 season, the team of the indebted Magdeburg club was seventh in the northern season of the ProB, but the league subsequently withdrew the team's license. After this season Polychroniadis left Magdeburg.
He worked full-time outside of basketball, but remained in the coaching field and took over a youth team at BBC Osnabrück for the 2017/18 season. In 2019 he took up a coaching position in the youth area of the Oldenburger TB and also became assistant coach of the Baskets Juniors Oldenburg in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB.
Since September 2016 he has been the holder of the A trainer license of the German Basketball Federation .
