de mo ho thog thu

Demo Hutuktu , Demo Rinpoche or Demo Tulku ( Tib . : bDe-mo Rin-po-che ; De mo Ho thog thu ), Demo Hotogtu , Demo Huthugtu , Demo Qutuqtu , Demo Khutukhtu etc. ( Chinese  第 穆 呼图克图 , Pinyin Dimu hutuketu or Chinese  第 穆 活佛 , Pinyin Dimu huofo  - "Demo Living Buddha") is the title of an important Kuutuktu (Trülku) line - d. H. Reincarnations of Living Buddhas - the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism . The traditional residence of the Demo Hutuktus is the Tänjäling Monastery (Tib .: bsTan-rgyas-gling , Demo Labrang residence) in Lhasa .

The fourth demo Hutuktu or Demo Rinpoche Lhawang Geleg Gyaltsen (1631–1668) had close ties with the 5th Dalai Lama . The 6th Demo Rinpoche was regent (chin. Shèzhèng 攝政 ) of Tibet (r. 1757–1777), also the 7th (r. 1811–1819) and 9th (r. 1886–1895). The 10th Demo Rinpoche, Tendzin Gyatsho , a nephew of the 13th Dalai Lama , was born in 1901.

Due to political controversies in the vicinity of the 13th Dalai Lama and the 9th Demo Hothogthu, as in other cases (such as that of the Shamarpa ), the establishment of further demo incarnations by the central Tibetan government in Lhasa was prohibited. Years later, however, this ban was lifted by the 13th Dalai Lama, so that the then 10th demo Rimpoche could be officially recognized.
