Diogo Alexandre Alves Ferreira (born October 5, 1989 in Footscray ) is an Australian football player .
Career
Ferreira played in the offspring of Green Gully SC before he moved to the youth department of the Portuguese top club FC Porto in 2005 after a successful trial training session . He then spent two years on loan at AD Oeiras ' youth division before returning to Australia. After playing a season for Green Gully in the Victorian Premier League in 2009, he joined the Melbourne Victory youth team for the 2009/10 season , with whom he competed in the National Youth League .
In March 2010, he first appeared for Victory's professional team as part of the AFC Champions League and a little later, like his youth team colleague Petar Franjic , signed a professional contract for two years. Under coach Ernie Merrick , Ferreira was mostly in midfield regularly in the following two seasons, but did not manage to establish himself as a permanent player. During this time, numerous appointments fell into the Australian U-23 selection. In addition to participating in a tournament in Vietnam in 2010, he also took part in the unsuccessful qualification for the 2012 Olympic football tournament .
In the 2012/13 season , Ferreira was mainly used under Ange Postecoglou as a right full-back, who described the player's performance as “okay” in view of the fact that this was not his “natural position”. Despite 16 appearances in the course of the season, Ferreira did not receive a new contract offer at the end of the season. A little later he found a new employer in the league competitor Brisbane Roar , where he was also used in the right-back position in the 2013/14 season preparation.
