from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dionysius of Phourna (* around 1670 in Phourna / Evritania, today Sterea Ellas, Etolia, Central Greece; † after 1744) was a Greek painter and priest monk ( Hieromonachos ).

Dionysios lived from the age of 16 until 1734 in Karyes on Mount Athos as a painter monk, where he had students. Its icons and wall paintings are said to be of mediocre quality. Four letters, 18 epigrams and two liturgical texts from his pen have been preserved. However, he has become famous as the author or compiler of a painter's book , known under the secondary title painter's book from Mount Athos or Hermeneia .
