Dochiariou monastery

The Dochiariou Monastery (Greek Ι. Μ. Δοχειαρίου, accounting officer) is a Greek Orthodox monastery in Athos , Greece . In the monastic hierarchy of Athos, it occupies tenth place. It was founded by Dochiarius before 1013 and has been in its current location since around 1100.

The monastery is located on the west coast of Mount Athos and is the first monastery that can be seen coming from Ouranoupolis . The monastery building, built on a slope around the Katholikon (main church), dates from the 16th century and is clearly dominated by the library tower in the rear area. The monastery community has been coinobitic since 1980 . Currently around 20 monks live in the monastery and two monks outside in a kellion . The monastery holiday is on November 8th ( Archangel Michael ).
