The Katholikon ( substantiated use in the neuter from ancient Greek καθολικός kathikós , German 'concerning the whole, general' ) is the main church of an Orthodox monastery .

The meeting room of an Orthodox church, which is located between the narthex and the sanctuary , is also known as the catholicon.
