Christoph Höcker

Christoph Höcker (* 1957 in Kiel ) is a German classical archaeologist and freelance non-fiction author.

After studying and doing his doctorate (1990) at the University of Hamburg , he worked there as a research assistant at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Hamburg from 1993 to 1997. Since 1995 he has been co-editor of the magazine Hephaestus . From 1996 to 2003, together with Burkhard Fehr and Dietrich Willers, he was co-editor of the New Pauly - Encyclopedia of Antiquity, with responsibility for the area of architectural history and also for ancient material culture. Christoph Höcker's specialist focus is on the history of architecture in antiquity, the afterlife of antiquity in the Middle Ages and modern times, and the communication of ancient studies to a wider audience. From 2001 to 2014 he held a teaching position at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture in the Department of Architecture at the ETH Zurich , which he gave up because of the acceptance of the Federal People's Initiative “Against Mass Immigration” . From 2009 to 2010 he was a lecturer at the Institute for Archeology at the University of Bern ; since 1999 various teaching positions at the University of Augsburg .
