Xenofontos

Moni Xenofontos ( Greek Μονή Ξενοφώντος ) is one of the twenty Orthodox monasteries on Mount Athos in the northwest of the Chalkidiki peninsula in Greece . It is dedicated to Saint George , whose votive feast is celebrated on April 23 (Orthodox calendar: May 6). In 1990 the monastery had 57 monks. Today it is in sixteenth place in the hierarchy of the Athos monasteries, in the Typikon of Manuel II. Palaiologos of 1406 it took eighth place.

Xenofontos Monastery

The monastery was founded towards the end of the 10th century by the monk Xenophon, the first documentary mention comes from 998. The newer Katholikon was built at the beginning of the 19th century, it is one of the largest churches on Mount Athos.
