Dirk Dirksen
Dirk Dirksen (born August 25, 1937 in Braunschweig , † November 20, 2006 ) was a music promoter and MC who worked for punk rock clubs, Mabuhay Gardens and On Broadway in San Francisco in the late 70s and early 80s. His nickname was the Pope of Punk , Pope of Punk. Dirksen was born in Braunschweig and moved to the USA in 1948. He was active in HEAR , Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers . In April 2006 he hosted an event with the Dead Kennedys , the Mutants and Flipper. Later that year he died asleep of a heart attack .
