Disposition train

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A disposition train is a reserve train or car park of a railway company that can be used immediately in the event of unforeseen operational disruptions in rail traffic . The Swiss Federal Railways keep these so-called dispatch trains manned by staff at larger stations. Originally introduced for the Zurich S-Bahn , the concept was soon rolled out across the network. In the event of a delay or a technical failure of a train, a replacement is available immediately so that the failure can be intercepted. This increases the overall punctuality and enables transfer connections to be guaranteed. This is a key measure to prevent delays from building up in tightly synchronized rail systems, such as an integral clock schedule . The Bahn 21 study carried out by the Verkehrsclub Deutschland assumes that passengers “willingly accepted the loss of comfort due to the use of old, written off trains because of the increased punctuality.” The concept of reducing delays was also used in Germany, for example on the Rhine -Main transport association .
