The café in Divatcsarnok

Divatcsarnok ( fashion hall ) is a department store in VI. District in Budapest . It is located on the Boulevard Andrássy út 39 between the State Opera and the Oktogon .

The original department store called Párizsi Nagy Áruház ( Great Parisian Department Store ) was built in 1882 according to plans by the architect Gusztáv Petschacher, but it burned down completely in 1903. The contemporary-style department store reopened in 1911 by architect Zsigmond Sziklai now has a glass-roofed inner courtyard and mirrored elevators. Formerly used as a pure fashion house, it now sells books, antiques and art goods. In the back of the building there is a ballroom with frescoes by the painter Károly Lotz , which is now used as a café.
