Divine: Zero (spelling: DIVINE: ZERO) is a German melodic death metal band that was founded in 1996 under the name Azrael's Tears .

history

From 1996 to 1998 Divine: Zero recorded two demos under the old name Azrael's Tears before the band renamed itself with a new line-up. In 1999 the band released the demo Solarisphere , on which Christof Birx ( Motorjesus ) can still be heard as a singer. In the course of 2000, however, the band broke up as the musicians wanted to concentrate on other bands and projects.

At the initiative of Christof Birx, the band reunited in 2002 with the original line-up. With Marcel Gellissen, Divine: Zero was able to hire a drummer for the first time after the musicians had resorted to the use of a drum computer in previous years . Stefan Rohn has had his permanent place on the drums since 2004. In 2005 Christof Birx finally left the band and the previous bassist Björn Harz took over the vacant singer position. The demo Burial Seasons is the first unofficial release in this line-up.

Divine: Zero released the first official full-length album The Day God Left across Europe in 2008 via Rough Trade Distribution , now with Christoph Golks (ex- Koroded ) on bass and Björn Harz on guitar for the first time. The style moves between 1980s Thrash Metal and Gothenburg sounds in the style of Dark Tranquility .

After two successful concert years, keyboardist Nadja Jäger left the band and the musicians began to write the new, much heavier album, whose release was a long time coming until the signing on Quality Steel Records in 2014. While the past few years were again determined by various casting problems - mainly on the bass - the line-up has been stable since bassist Markus Emde (ex-Motorjesus) joined. The current album The Cold Asylum has been available since November 2014 and received mostly positive reviews with its harder sound.

In spring 2016 the band made a guest appearance in eight cities (including Hanover, Leipzig and Cologne) as part of their “Bloodpounding” Germany tour.

Stefan Rohn, drummer since 2004, left the band at the end of 2016 during the songwriting for the third album due to time constraints due to professional and personal changes.

In March 2019 the band can welcome Stefan Rohn again as a full member of DIVINE: ZERO.
