Division I (chess) 1973/74

The 1973/74 season was the fifth season of the Allsvenskan in chess.

Events

The preliminary round competitions took place on October 21, November 11, December 2, 1973, January 20, February 10, March 3 and 24, 1974.

Division I Norra

Wasa SK prevailed superiorly in the northern season and had already qualified for the final before the last round. From the Division II were Vällingby Schacksällskap and the crystals SK ascended. Both promoted players achieved relegation, while SK Rockaden Umeå and the reigning Swedish champions Upsala ASS had to relegate.

Division I Södra

In the southern season, the Lunds ASK and the SS Allians Skänninge fought head-to-head for the finals, which Lund won in the end. Last year's finalist Limhamns SK ended up in third place. From the Division II were Jönköpings Schacksällskap and Helsingborgs Schacksällskap ascended. While Jönköping reached relegation, Helsingborg rose together with SK Kamraterna .

final

For the last time, with Wasa SK and Lunds ASK, the winners of both seasons contested the final in the two legs, from 1975 two teams per season qualified for the final tournament. The finals took place in Stockholm on April 6th and 7th . After the first leg ended 4: 4, Wasa SK prevailed in the second leg with 5½: 2½ and became Swedish team champions.
