The Dodge Phoenix was a passenger car that Chrysler Australia built from 1960 to 1973 . The Phoenix was introduced in 1960 as the Australian version of the US Dodge Dart and was positioned as a luxury model above the Chrysler Royal, which was assembled in Australia . The car got its name from the top model of the Dodge Dart series, the Dodge Dart Phoenix. Unlike its American namesake, the Phoenix was only offered as a 4-door sedan and only with a 5.2 liter V8 engine.
As a result, the Phoenix was revised every year together with the respective US Dodge model (initially the Dart, later the Polara ) until a change in strategy for the 1965 model year allowed the Phoenix to be based on the Plymouth Fury for the first time . Like the American Fury of 1965, the Phoenix of the same year also had twin headlights on top of each other. In 1967, a 4-door hardtop sedan was added to the sedan , which was equipped with a 6.3 liter V8 engine, while the normal sedan still retained the 5.2 liter V8. These two body styles were offered until the 1973 series was discontinued. Chrysler by Chrysler , developed in Australia, then took on the role of the top model.
